The courses are priced in USD and this will be converted to your local currency by Stripe. You will receive a confirmation receipt and order number after you complete your payment.
How do I access my course?
All courses are conducted online, so you’ll need a laptop and an internet connection – as well as a PDF reader. I use Zoom for my live calls.
Will I lose access after a certain time?
You have ongoing access to the course and all updates. Your access will last as long as Health Writer Hub is around (10 years and counting!). This means you can access all course materials for as long as you need to. If you still need access after the course period, you’ll be able to continue to use the materials.
Do I only have one week to review each lesson’s materials?
You have as long as you like. Many students like to take their time with the materials. The choice is yours, and rest assured I’m not going anywhere – once you sign up for the course, you will have my support whenever you need it.
Do you offer loyalty discounts?
I do indeed! All students who take one of my courses will receive 30% off any of my other courses. You can get in touch with me if you have any questions about this.
Can I email you if I have a question?
Of course! I encourage you to get in touch and email me whenever you have a question. The courses also include access to a student Facebook group, where I’ll be answering your questions. Additionally, most courses include live calls where we’ll be talking openly about the course materials and discussing the techniques in the course.
How often is the course material updated?
I review and update the course material throughout the year. Also, I survey all students after they have completed the course and their suggestions are incorporated. Additionally, I’m constantly keeping up to date with new industry trends and looking for the latest advice to include – helping to ensure the content is always as relevant and current as possible.
Can I still take the course if I’m American/ English/ Australian/ European?
This is a common question! I’ve designed my courses to be relevant for any English-speaking writer, anywhere. That’s why everything taught in this course is applicable at a global level. I’ve had students from 40+ countries take my courses: students from Australia, America, New Zealand, Asia, Europe and the UK take my courses.
Do you offer CPD points or accreditation?
All Health Writer Hub’s courses are approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses. Independently accredited with the CPD Certification Service – one of the world’s leading independent CPD accreditation institutions, the courses meet the required standard of CPD at a global level.
The course learning value and structure conform to global CPD guidelines and principles, complementing the CPD policies of professional institutes and academic bodies. Read more about the CPD accreditation for our courses.
Is there really enough health writing work available for everyone?
If there wasn’t, I wouldn’t be teaching courses about health writing! Healthcare is a rapidly growing and evolving field. There really is so much writing work out there – regardless of whether you wish to write articles, blogs, handouts, submissions, academic papers, guidelines and more. Forging a successful freelance career involves investing time and energy into your marketing and professionalism – so you can give yourself the best opportunity of securing all the work that comes your way.
How will I avoid looking the same as all the other health writers out there?
My courses are designed to help you hone your uniqueness so that you can stand out and have a point of difference in the health writing niche. No two freelance health writing businesses should be the same as we are all on different health writing journeys – and I definitely don’t teach a cookie-cutter approach to freelancing!
Why health writing – what’s the difference between health writing and medical writing?
For some people, there is no difference – others tend to equate ‘health’ writing with consumer writing and ‘medical’ writing with academic and scientific writing. My courses are relevant for all styles of writing within the healthcare niche – with a focus on consumer health writing. I do not teach academic writing.
Can you write a reference for me?
I sometimes act as referees for students who I have worked closely with. I am more than happy to discuss how this works for you after you have completed your course. For me to act as your referee, we will need to have developed a close working relationship, Also, I need to feel comfortable I know you well enough to provide honest, accurate and valuable insight into your writing and working habits. Any decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. Please contact me if you’d like to know more about how this works.
When are the live calls?
If your course includes live calls, I will schedule the group calls at a time that suits most if not everyone. If you can’t make the group call, it will usually be recorded so you can view it later.
When are the private coaching calls?
For courses that include private coaching calls: we generally schedule the calls after you have completed your first few tasks – so, we’ll have one call halfway through the course, and another towards the end of the course period. I will discuss this with you once your course has commenced. I use Zoom for all my coaching calls.
Why should I take your health writing courses when I can learn how to write online for free?
Believe it or not, this is a question I sometimes receive! It’s true you can find a lot of free writing advice online (and on my blog in particular). But here’s the difference. When you take one of my writing courses, you have my full support. You have your own teacher. And, that’s because I don’t feel I can teach you how to improve your writing skills unless you get feedback. I believe the three most important steps to take to improve your writing are reading, practice and feedback. You can (and should) do the first two on your own, but the third? That’s where I come in. And, that’s why ALL my courses include my feedback and support. I don’t just send you the materials and call it a day. When you take one of my courses, I spend a lot of time reading your tasks and giving you practical steps to help you become the best health writer you can be.
How much time do I need to set aside each week?
That depends on the course, so please contact me via my contact form here to discuss time requirements for the course you are interested in.
Can I start the course before or after the official start date?
Many of my students have schedules that can make it difficult to commit to the set class times. And, that’s why I’m very flexible with all my courses. You can absolutely start earlier, or later, as a lot of the learning is self-directed. If you would like to register and have early access to the course, please contact me via my contact form.
Why aren’t the lessons live?
People from all over the world take Health Writer Hub’s courses, so it’s very hard to find a time that suits everyone involved. The materials are ready for you to view at a time that suits you – enabling you to get the most out of your learning experience. Your course includes a student-only forum where you can post questions and answers and interact with the other students taking the course at the time. And, of course, you have unlimited email access to me for the duration of the course.
